Privacy policy
Halal Foodie (findhalalfoodie.com) is operated by Sefiani Technologies BV, based in Belgium. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the GDPR.
The data we collect
We only collect what we need to run Halal Foodie:
- Account details — when you create an account: your email address, name, city, and date of birth, plus whether you opted in to marketing emails.
- Reviews — the rating and text you publish, shown under your name.
- Restaurant submissions — the details you send us when you suggest a restaurant.
- Advertising purchases — if you buy a paid placement, we keep a record of the purchase (restaurant, package, dates, amount). Payment is handled by Stripe; your full card details never reach our servers.
- Technical data — short-lived server logs (including IP addresses) needed to keep the site secure, and the pseudonymous product analytics described below.
Why we use it
Every use of your data rests on a legal basis under Article 6 of the GDPR:
- To provide your account — signing you in, saving restaurants, and publishing your reviews (performance of a contract).
- To process advertising purchases — delivering the placement you bought and keeping the invoicing records the law requires (performance of a contract and legal obligation).
- To send marketing emails — only if you opted in, and you can withdraw that consent at any time in your profile settings or via the unsubscribe link in every email (consent).
- To keep the site secure and improve it — preventing fraud and abuse, moderating content, and understanding product usage (legitimate interests).
Product analytics
We use PostHog, hosted in the European Union, to understand how Halal Foodie is used — including pages visited, features clicked, and technical errors. PostHog assigns your browser a pseudonymous identifier and stores it in a first-party cookie and local storage so visits can be linked over time. We do not use it to identify you by name or follow you across other websites.
Analytics is sent through our own domain before PostHog processes it. These analytics identifiers are separate from the strictly necessary cookies that keep you signed in and remember your language. You can remove stored identifiers at any time through your browser settings.
Who we share data with
We never sell your data. We share it only with the service providers that run Halal Foodie, and only for the purposes above:
- Stripe — payment processing for advertising purchases.
- PostHog — pseudonymous product analytics, hosted in the EU.
- Cloudflare — hosting and content delivery.
- Railway — database hosting.
- Resend — sending account and service emails.
Each provider processes data under a data processing agreement. Where a provider processes data outside the European Economic Area, transfers are protected by safeguards recognized under the GDPR, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Account data — for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data.
- Reviews — for as long as they are published; they are anonymized when your account is deleted.
- Purchase and invoicing records — for the retention period Belgian accounting and tax law requires, even after you delete your account.
- Server logs — kept briefly and rotated automatically.
Your rights
The GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, delete, and receive a copy of your personal data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@findhalalfoodie.com. We respond within one month. You can also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority or the supervisory authority of your country of residence.
Children
Halal Foodie is not aimed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version here and adjust the date at the top. For significant changes we will let you know more prominently — for example by email or a notice on the site.
